Medical Dosimetry—Improving the Outcome and Ultimate Recovery after Radiation Treatment

Are you currently undergoing radiation treatment? If so, you probably know that there is a whole team of radiation oncology professionals involved in your care. But you may not know that one of those professionals is a medical dosimetrist. This person is responsible for designing a radiation treatment plan that maximizes the radiation dose to your tumor site while minimizing the radiation to the surrounding healthy tissue. Your medical dosimetrist works closely with your radiation oncologist, your medical physicist and your radiation therapist to create a plan that leads to the best possible outcome for you. Your medical dosimetrist also follows your treatments closely in order to modify your plan as the radiation is administered and your body starts to respond.

Next time you are in the clinic for treatment, ask to meet your medical dosimetrist. Ask him or her to show you your treatment plan and explain it to you. You’ll gain a better understanding of your treatment process – not to mention insights into why the radiation treatment machine stops and starts when it does. The medical dosimetrist plays a key role in your treatment and ultimate recovery.

For more information about medical dosimetry, visit the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists Website at www.medicaldosimetry.org (Under General Information, click on the “What is a Medical Dosimetrist?” link).

The American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD) is the professional society for medical dosimetrists. AAMD promotes and supports the medical dosimetry profession through education, forums of professional interaction and a representative voice in the healthcare community. With more than 2,800 members worldwide, AAMD seeks to promote an ideal of professional conduct to which its members should aspire and endorses the highest standards of patient care. Elaine Cantin: How to Cure Breast Cancer with a Modified Ketogenic Diet

While many choose conventional treatment for their cancer, many do not; Join us Tuesday, October 23rd to chat with Elaine Canton when she talks about her pathway for cancer treatment.

Elaine was diagnosed with breast cancer and within one week was rushed into have a surgical lumpectomy. Doctors wanted to immediately begin ‘aggressive’ radiation and chemotherapy and this idea frightened Elaine, as she had seen many family members and friends die soon after similar treatments. Elaine said,”I thought that if I had to go, I would not be going that way.”
Shortly after her lumpectomy the tumor grew back to the size of a small egg. She began researching the Ketogenic diet and after modifying it to remove several allergenic foods, Elaine’s tumor shrunk to the size of a chick pea and then disappeared! Elaine has been told by her oncologist that she is in complete remission … she is cured.

“I am just a regular girl with a very soft spot for sick children and with a very analytical mind…what characterizes me the most is that when I set my mind on doing something, I don’t give up until I succeed. I love to learn, I am self-motivated and I cannot help it, I am a leader. I am a firm believer that if there is a will there is a way, and if you believe, you can achieve something, you will.”
“My book, The Cantin Ketogenic Diet, is my diet of hope, a diet that comes from my heart, my own research… I lived it and I know what it’s like, I hope it can help others.”

You can listen live, Tuesday, October 23rd, 1pm EST on www.W4CS.com

Late Stage Cancer: There is Hope

On March 29th, 1996, Daniel Shapiro passed away due to an aggressive lymphoma. In preceding years, prior to the fatal effect of this Lymphoma, Daniel had suffered from Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer. His adult son, Rick Shapiro, witnessed this harrowing experience and most difficult journey.

Years went by and Rick wondered, whether people diagnosed with terminal or late stage cancer had ever “beaten the odds”, and lived on many more years past their prognosis, with quality of life. He had heard of the terms “spontaneous regression” and “spontaneous remission”, but truly did not know what they meant. He had heard of miracle stories, but did not understand where and how these miracles could happen. He wondered if there was a logical or rational basis for these unexplainable outcomes … at least unexplainable by conventional standards.

Fast forward to the present – In recent years, Rick has become a passionate researcher and part-time educator of integrative and alternative treatments and therapies, to people afflicted with late stage cancer. He is currently writing a book based on actual audio and video interviews he has conducted, of people who were told to “get their affairs in order”, during the past 5-20 years !! Yes, people who were told 5, 10, 15 and 20 years ago, that they had a very short time to live … but they are still here, and thriving. In the words of Mark Twain – “rumors of their demise were greatly exaggerated …”.

Rick has uncovered numerous stories, nationwide, of people afflicted with all kinds of cancer who pursued different avenues to achieve long term health and an excellent quality of life. Not everyone Rick has interviewed has taken the same path, however, they have attained similar, fantastic outcomes. Their stories are true. His pending book and the lessons learned from it, will provide people who walk in the frightful shoes of late stage cancer, that there truly is “HOPE”. Rick has looked into their eyes and recorded their stories. He will talk about these stories on October 9th.

Rick has a website and blog to be found at – www.latestagecancer.com He is targeting the publication date for his book to be early in 2013.

Rick is a former practicing Attorney in the States of NY and AZ. He also, currently, owns and operates a boutique Merger & Acquisition Firm in Scottsdale, AZ.
Join us on Survive and Live Well, the internet radio show for cancer, Tuesday, October 9th at 1pm, EST when Rick shares with you stories of those who have beaten the odds, and how they did it.

Healing Cancer Naturally, Dental Toxins and More!

Choosing the best path for treatment is a very individual process. Many people choose conventional treatment for their cancer, and many do not. It’s all about finding and choosing the right treatment for you, for your body and your cancer. Knowing your options is key, but equally as important is knowing the pros and cons of each treatment. While there are no guarantees, we need to know –what are the chances the protocol will treat the cancer? And will it come with temporary or life threatening side effects? I don’t like that word, side effect. If treatment can cause serious damage, I am not so sure the damage can be referred to as a side effect. But anyway, can these so called side effects be avoided? What are the chances for recurrence? Will the treatment encourage or discourage the return of the cancer or new cancer? The recent news about Robin Roberts only brings awareness to the subject; sadly, she is hardly alone in her plight. Last week we spoke about a potential vaccine for cancer, but until we have that, we still have to treat our cancer. So today on the show, my guest, Bill Henderson, talked about healing cancer naturally, by means of a gentle, non-toxic therapy with no side effects (other than improved health and less cancer.)

Cancer is not a symptom, a random tumor that must simply be removed. It is an imbalance in the body, a cry for help, if you will, that we need to take care of ourselves; that our body and soul require attention. If we do not fix the imbalance or the reason for the cancer, the cancer will likely recur and/or spread, and certainly will not go away.
I loved Bill’s answer to “If your wife was diagnosed with breast cancer, what would you recommend she do?” First, he would send her to the dentist. Routine dental work, such as root canals, tooth extractions (especially the removal of wisdom teeth), etc. can cause massive infections in the mouth that spread throughout the lymph system and contribute to cancer, especially breast cancer. To learn more about dental concerns and cancer, please view: http://www.cancertutor.com/Other/Breast_Cancer.html. He also spoke at length about choosing the right dentist, one who is trained in the safe correction of dental culprits. “In the U.S., there are 160,000 dentists in the American Dental Association and another 7,400 dentist who are oral surgeons. Of those, there are less than 50 I would trust.” For a list of dentists that Bill recommends, please email me.

Second, he would address her stress issues, as often times repressed stress can lead to and fuel cancer. This stress-reaction can stem from an event that took place years prior to our diagnosis. He strongly recommends that we read Dr Brad Nelson’s The Emotional Code, to uncover and resolve stress issues or events that are causing our cancer, and preventing us from healing.

Lastly, he would change her diet, although he avoids that word “diet” as it implies something temporary. Eating well is a lifelong commitment, not something we do for just a few weeks.

All of these actions are important in our quest for wellness.

What he stressed was the importance of addressing the cause of the cancer as a means to cure it. What he didn’t do was suggest that his wife head off to a cancer clinic. For some people, some cancers, this may be the way to go. However, no matter what treatment we choose, if we don’t change the environment in which our cancer was permitted to grow, it will be very difficult to cure it. Bill’s argument for treating cancer naturally is a compelling one. To learn more about it, please visit Bill’s website or read his book, Cancer-Free.

The best thing we can do is to consider the origin of our cancer, address it, and choose the best possible treatment for our cancer, our body, our needs.
