Hippocrates had it right, Let Food Be Thy Medicine. Fruits and vegetables contain hundreds of complex phytochemicals called flavonoids, which are known to prevent cancers and halt or control the growth of existing ones. Phytochemicals (plant chemicals) aim to stop tumors at the harmless stage before they can develop into cancer. And the really exciting thing is that they do so with greater safety and effectiveness than conventional medicine. Plant extracts such as turmeric and green tea can target cancer on many levels; they hit many targets and cut off cancer pathways, and they can address those molecular targets without the toxicity of multiple chemotherapies. The possibilities are endless with food, but there is no magic bullet…so fill up your plate with cancer fighting fruits and vegetables, several times a day, and include a wide variety.
